On 18 November 2024, the President of Vanuatu acted on a decision by the Council of Ministers to dissolve Parliament following a Motion of No Confidence. According to the Constitution of Vanuatu, the Vanuatu Electoral Commission is required to conduct a Parliamentary election after 30 days but no later than 60 days following dissolution.  The Vanuatu Electoral Commission has issued a declaration for the 2025 Snap Election to be held on 14 January 2025. 

At the same time, the Vanuatu Electoral Commission announced the by-election of the Port Vila Municipal Council seat for the Northern Ward to be held on 14 January 2025 as well.
