2019 Efate Rural By-Election

DESCRIPTION

According to Representation of People Act, when a Parliamentary seat becomes vacant for any reason except dissolution of Parliament a by-election shall be held. Following the sudden demise of MP Jerry Kanas, a by-election for the constituency where he was elected had to be called.

  • Polling date: 2 September 2019
  • Close of voter registration: 22 July 2019 (4h30 pm)
  • Starting date for the lodging of candidature application forms: 19 July 2019
  • Starting date for submitting proxy application forms: 19 July 2019
  • Closing date for the lodging of candidature application forms: 2 August 2019 (4h30 pm)
  • Publication of list of qualified candidates: 16 August 2019
  • Electoral campaign: 16 August – 30 August 2019 (midnight)
  • Closing of proxy application forms: 16 August 2019 (4h30 pm)
  • Closing of issuing of “duplicate” voter cards: 16 August 2019 (4h30 pm)
  • Closing of accreditation of party and candidate agents: 31 August 2019 (4h30 pm)
  • Polling and counting: 2 September 2019
